Austin-Healey 3000 Mk III

Another of my favorite PowerShot A50 images, taken at the Canadian Grand Prix in 2001. The F1 drivers were paraded around the track pre-race, each in his own vintage Austin-Healey. Linda and I found the cars parked back behind the hairpin grandstands at the very end of the rowing basin, in a lot which was used as a paddock area for the supporting events.

This particular image always stood out because it reminded me of those great photos that I used to see in old Road & Track magazines as a kid, the ones which filled in space among the regular columns. I always admired them because, without showing the entire car, they captured the essence of the subject in question - a body line, a fin, a headlight... whatever it was, there was no mistaking what car it belonged to. This photo captures, for me, the unmistakable fingerprint of one of my favorite British roadsters, the 3000 Mk III - that beautiful grill and hood scoop. It just screams "Austin-Healey!"
