Sun Pillar

Sun Pillar - (meteorology) A luminous streak of light, white or slightly reddened, extending above and below the sun, most frequently observed near sunrise or sunset; it may extend to about 20° above the sun, and generally ends in a point. A visual phenomenon created by the reflection of light from ice crystals with near horizontal parallel planar surfaces.
I photographed this sun pillar this evening from Pine Island, NY, as the sun set behind Mt. Pochuck. No photo can do it justice - it was much more visible and brilliant to the naked eye, like a searchlight.

The End Of The World The War Is Coming!!!

Today's spew from Madame Hillary:

"If we in Congress don't end this war before January 2009, as president, I will."
Doesn't a war normally end when both sides agree that it's over? Maybe I missed the news report in which the Jihadists agreed to stop killing infidels once the US surrenders.

Hillary for Politburo General Secretary

Today's spew from Madame Hillary:

"The other day the oil companies reported the highest profits in the history of the world. I want to take those profits and I want to put them into a strategic energy fund that will begin to fund alternative smart energy, alternative and technologies that will begin to actually move us toward the direction of independence."
Let's see if I got this straight: A legal company selling a legal product earns legal profits for their legal shareholders, and instead of offering them their due congratulations they plan to "take" their profits for the government to dispose of as they see fit. To each according to their means, right?

But let's not get ahead of ourselves. First, we must haul the CEOs up in front of yet another Congressional committee, Kangaroo Court-style, and have them sit there silently while our duly elected blowhards take their turn in front of the cameras, posturing and castigating people who actually work for a living, decrying their unashamed audacity to be successful. Behold the price of success in America: To be demonized by the same government that rewards the failure of the airline industry with a $15 billion dollar bailout, while punishing those who achieve.

Memo to Hillary and the rest of her Socialist ilk: Fuck You. Earn your own.

Afterthought: According to the news report of Exxon's recent "record profit", they earned $39.5 billion profit on $377.64 billion revenue. For those of us who are able to do the math, that's less than 10.5% profit margin. Ask your boss if he could stay in business if his profit margin was 10.5%; mine simply laughed.

Update 02/04: What he said.
